History of Bob Foster Boxing Career

Bob Foster is considered to be one of the greatest light heavyweight Boxing champions in history. He was the holder of long arms, a thin frame and was the tallest light heavyweight in history standing at 6'3. Foster was a dangerous puncher with both hand and so conquered the 175 pound division that he sought greater challenges from heavyweights. Foster turned pro in 1961 as a light heavyweight but in his 10th fight, he made his first of many forays into the heavyweight division and suffered his first loss at the hands of Doug Jones by a 8th round knockout. After 2 more wins, he lost to South American champion Mauro Mina by decision in Lima Peru. After three more fights back in the States, Foster once again made an effort to enter the heavyweight rankings but was knocked out by future word champ Ernie Terrell. Foster went back to light heavyweight division and went on a 7 fight winning streak before once again, jumping to the heavyweight division and losing a 10 round unanimous decision to Zora Folley. By 1967, in spite of Fosters failed attempts to become a top heavyweight, he was still a ranked light heavyweight. He decided to stick to the light heavyweight division and a year later, got his shot at a world title. Foster fought champion Dick Tiger and knocked him out in 4 rounds to become the WBA and WBC light heavyweight champion. Foster sustained his tear in the 175lb division winning 11 fights in a row and all by knockout including an interim heavyweight fight against Roy Wallace. He was then given a chance to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world against unbeatable Joe Frazier; Foster sadly was knocked out in 2 rounds as his heavyweight woes continued.
