History of Ricky Hatton Boxing Career

Ricky is to be considered the pride and joy of Manchester England. He started boxing at the age of 10 and up until he turned professional in 1997. Hatton became known for his destructive style and excitement in the ring. After a string of wins that led to an immaculate record of 38-0, Hatton who had been criticized of being protected fought 140 pound king Kostya Tszyu in June of 2005. Hatton came into the fight a heavy underdog and many expected Tszyu to take out the Manchester native. Hatton ended up putting on the best performance and win of his career when he was victorious after Tszyu quit on his stool before the 12th round. That win cemented Hatton into the 140 pound division and silenced all the critics. Hatton didn't stop there, he went on to unify his IBF title and the WBA title by defeating Carlos Maussa later that year in a overwhelming 9th round KO. He was named Ring Magazines fighter of the year for 2005.
